Polypeptide Reacting MR 83 000 Plakoglobin, "band 5" polypeptide of intercellular adhering junctions (idnetical to gamma-catenin(). The PG 5.1 epitope maps within he C-terminus at the extreme end of repeat 13 (aa 632-687) of plakoglobin.

Working Dilution When reconstituted with 1ml distilled water dilute 1:5 (for immunofluorescence) approx 1:10 for histochemistry, Titer for each application.

Background: Plakoglobin (also known as gamma catenin) was originally identified as a component of desmones where it is found in association with desmoglein. Gamma-catenin and Beta-catenin are closely related proteins and have significant homology with theDrosphilia armadillo protein. In addition to complexing with E-cadherin, G-catenin and B-catenin have been observed in association with the intracellular domain of N-cadherin. It has been proposed that one molecule of alpha-catenin and at least one molecule of B-catenin and G-catenin simultaneously bind to a single cadherin molecule. Recently, a 19-amino acid sequence of desmoglein (Dsg1) has been recognized as critical for binding of G-catenin. This region has significant homology to catenin-binding domain of classical cadherins, suggesting a common  mechanism for G-catenin localization at both adherens junctions and desmosomes.

antigen: a 19.9 kDa fragment corresponding to amino acids 553- 738 of the human gamma-catenin protein

USe: Suitable for western blot on human, dog, rat, mouse and chick, using approx 1 to .04ug/ml ab on total cell lysate. Major band at Mw 82 kDa.

Storage: Store at -20 DEG C upon receipt. Avoid frequent freeze thaw cycles. Recommend aliquoting. Avoid frequent freeze thaw cycles.
