DATA SHEET:recombinant HUMAN LEPTIN
-Human Leptin (Anti-Obesity Protein) is the human homologue of murine leptin, the protein product of the ob (obese) ene in mice and seems to be involved in appetite control. The murine ob gene is expressed in adipose tissue and is thought to regulate the body's fat stores. Mice with the ob/ob genotype also develop a form of diabetes similar to type II (non insulin dependent) diabetes. HUMAN Leptin is a 16 kDa protein containing 146 amino acid residues.

LEPTIN FRAGMENTS
Leptin, the product of the obese gene (ob), is a
hormone secreted by adipocytes. Administration
of recombinant mouse leptin in ob/ob mice-homozygous
ob mutants suffering from obesity-corrected both overeating and obesity.
Moreover leptin reduced the appetite and weight of
mice with diet-induced obesity, and caused significant loss of body weight and
fat content in lean mice.
